How it works
Your family already knows what to do. Now your money does too.
Not a will, which is read too late, and not a key hidden in a drawer, which is found too late or never. A household balance that watches for you to touch your phone, waits a quiet period, and then moves to the people you named, slowly, with a letter for each. One touch brings it all home.
Six things the house knows how to do.
Everything the contract does, in the order it happens, drawn on Mama Ngozi’s house.
1Name the people
Who the money goes to, in what shares, and who can witness. Write each of them a letter. It opens for them only when the money reaches them.
2Live your life
Every touch of your phone resets the clock. Paying someone counts. Naming people counts. Nothing about the house asks anything of you while you are here.
3The quiet period
Go quiet for the period you chose, a month say, and nothing at all happens. The ring drains, a day at a time. The people you named can ask after you, and your phone hears it.
4The handover
Past the ring, the money begins to move to the people you named, slowly, over the period you chose, in the shares you gave. Each may take what has reached them and no more.
5I’m here
One touch brings all of it home at once, whatever had moved. It is reversible until the day it is not, and that is the whole point.
6A witness for anything large
A payment over the line you set waits for a witness you named to say yes on their phone. Small ones go at once.
Why Arc
A handover is only safe if pulling it back is final before anyone can act on it, and a witness is only useful if they can say yes within seconds, at the point of need. Arc settles both in under a second, and every fee is paid in dollars, so a family never has to buy anything else to touch a phone or say yes.
What is an example
The six households on the home page are examples and say so: made-up families on the same clock the contract keeps, so what you watch there is what Arc would do. With the house’s contract on the registry and a wallet, Open a household opens a real one, and everything on it is read from Arc.
Fair questions.
Is this real?
The six households on the home page are examples and say so: made-up families on the same clock the contract keeps. With the house’s contract on Arc and a wallet, “Open a household” opens a real one, and everything on it is read from Arc.
What if I just forget to touch my phone?
Nothing happens for the whole quiet period, and the people you named can ask after you. When the handover begins it is slow, over the period you chose, and one touch brings every dollar home. You would have to be quiet for months, and nobody who loves you would let you.
Can the people I named take it early?
No. Inside the quiet period nothing is theirs. Past it, each can take only their share of what has moved so far, and the contract keeps the count. A touch takes back whatever has not yet been taken.
What is the letter for?
Some things are easier to write than to say. Each person gets one, and the app opens it for them when the money reaches them. It lives on the record, so write what you would say out loud.
Who are the witnesses?
People you name who can say yes to a large payment from their phone. You choose the line and how many must agree. Below the line, money goes at once.
What about a family that has never done anything like this?
They sign in with a face or a fingerprint on a phone. A touch is a tap. A yes is a tap. Nobody sees a word that needs looking up, and every fee on Arc is paid in dollars.
Who makes money on this?
A quarter of a percent a year on what a household keeps here, streamed to whoever runs the house. Touches, letters and questions cost nothing beyond Arc’s fee.
